Adrian Peterson compares the NFL to slavery.

foxsports- The NFL labor situation is "modern-day slavery," according to Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson.
The running back's explosive comments were quoted in a Yahoo! Sports story last Friday, the same day the NFL Players Association decertified and the NFL owners subsequently locked out the players.
Peterson vented his anger about the owners refusing to open their financial books.
“It’s like . . . well, show us. We want more information, and they want to (expletive), going around, saying this and that, just open it up and give us the information we want,” Peterson told Yahoo! Sports shortly before the NFLPA’s decertification last Friday.
“. . . If they have nothing to hide, just give us the information. Why not? Obviously, there’s a lot to hide — these guys are professionals, and they’re maximizing what they do. But they know that if all this information comes out, the information the players want, it’ll be right out there for everyone to see. It’s a rip-off — not just for the players, but for the people who work at the concession stands and at the stadiums.”
But Peterson didn’t stop there. Many NFL players feel that they aren’t being treated as business partners, but Peterson chose a different term for the treatment.
“It’s modern-day slavery, you know?” Peterson said. “People kind of laugh at that, but there are people working at regular jobs who get treated the same way, too. With all the money . . . the owners are trying to get a different percentage, and bring in more money.”

I was wondering how long it was going to take somebody to bring up slavery. Seems like every time a player is looking for more money they tend to do it. I'm surprised to hear Peterson say it, though. My money was on Terrell Owens or some clown on the Jets. I kind of see his point. Slaves had it pretty good. They probably made more money than anybody else back in those days, but those asshole plantation owners wouldn't disclose how much money they made off their crops and they should've been paid more. What's that? Slaves weren't paid? That's why they were called slaves? Alright, forget what I just said.

I think the players make enough money. The owners are the ones who take the financial risks, and they shouldn't be forced to open the books. They should, however, be forced to take care of the NFL veterans. Many of them are crippled or brain damaged from playing in the league, and they should be properly cared for.

But you know who's getting screwed over by the league the most? The fans. Ticket prices are fucking ridiculous, and concession prices are even worst. The league is more popular today than it has ever been, and these fucks are threatening a work stoppage. Damn, I wish I didn't love football so much. But I do. Hopefully they get this thing worked out soon, because the Pats are going all the way this year.

  1. As I see it the owners are asking the players to take a blind faith cut in their share of revenues without having all of the information. At the end of the day it is a bunch of millionaires vs. billionaires with the fans getting ball punched.
